title pic A weekly spotlight on VC - Greylock

Posted by Liat on 30/01/2008

Greylock Partners

60 seconds on Greylock

Greylock Partners is a US Venture Capital firm that has been actively partnering with Israeli companies since 2001. In 2006, Greylock Partners launched Greylock Israel, a separate $150M fund dedicated to investing in early-stage Israeli technology companies. Working closely with other leading Israeli VCs and backed by the industry-leading resources of Greylock Partners, Greylock is uniquely positioned to help early-stage Israeli companies realize their global potential.

In what ereas are you investing?

Greylock Israel invests in all areas with the exception of life sciences. That includes the following: networking and mobile, enterprise software, semiconductors, consumer and services (Internet included), cleantech, homeland security, and enterprise infrastructure.

At what stage of the company are you investing? Who should we contact?

Greylock Israel aims at investing at the earlier stages of the company, in what we call Seed and ‘Series A' investments. We believe we can give great value to the company at these early stages. We also invest at later stages if there is an attractive opportunity to do so.

In order to inquire about an investment: If you have personal connections with one of the partners, it is always a good idea to approach him/her directly. If you are not familiar with the partners, try approaching the associate in the VC firm.

What should we bring for the first meeting? (executive sumery, business plan, presentation)

For a first meeting with the VC, you should bring a presentation and make sure to have an operating plan handy to show during the presentation, if asked. You may be asked to send the Business Plan or Executive Summary at some point when in contact with VCs.

What investments did you make 2006-2007, and what are you looking for in 2008?

In 2006-2007, we made a number of investments in the internet space, an investment in homeland security, one in RFID technology, and one in semiconductors. We are looking to continue investments in our target areas in 2008. We did close our first investment in the Cleantech space in 2008 and hope to have more such investments looking forward.
